Hiking with Hillary

Today we went on a hike to Wahclella Falls. This is one of mine and my kids favorite hikes. It's relatively easy and the waterfall is always beautiful. It was especially pretty today because we have had so much rain that there was a ton of water coming off the falls.

One of the reasons the kids love this hike is because there are so many bridges and more than one waterfall. This waterfall is on the first bridge at the beginning of the hike.It was so close the kids could almost touch it.
Usually by this time of year all of the little waterfalls and streams have dried up. But it was like hiking in the wintertime! There were little waterfalls everywhere.
The happy hikers!
We made it!!
Timmy, Emily, Bethany, Grandma, Hillary, Valerie, Sam, Matthew, Joe, and Josh!
Me and my crew at the waterfall.
Ian and Amy going across one of the bridges. With so many boys we had to stop a lot to throw rocks in the water.
The trail goes around in a loop so the way back is just as fun and new as the way there. The kids were so excited to find a cave on the way back and a great place to throw more rocks.
At the end of the trail I got Sam out of the carrier so he could have some time to run around. He immediately found rocks to throw!
The only problem was he would try to go to the rushing river to throw them in. I probably should have got him out of the carrier when we were on one of the bridges.
I love that sweet baby face!
After the hike we went to see Herman the Sturgeon in the fish hatchery at the Bonneville Dam. Grandma was feeling rich and let the kids feed the trout. They loved it! Sam was mad and I couldn't figure out why until I let him throw one of the pellets to the fish. Then he calmed right down and held his hand out for more. It was warm enough outside that the kids played in this fountain outside the gift shop.
It was a fun day and other than the 25 cents to feed the fish it was free! It doesn't get much better than that!
