Happy Memorial Day

For Memorial Day Andy took Scott and Matthew out deep sea fishing. Andy's grandpa Farnsworth loved to fish and I can't think of a better way to remember him than being out on the ocean doing what he loved.
They love to go fishing with their dad and this was their first time fishing out on the ocean.
This is Scott with his cod that he caught.
This is Matthew with the sea bass that he caught. He liked catching the fish but as you can tell he didn't like to touch it after.
Not bad for a day out on the ocean. 4 cod and 17 rock fish that were mostly sea bass.
Timmy was a little sad that he couldn't go fishing with his dad so while the boys were out on the ocean Grandma Lay and I took Timmy, Bethany, Sam, and Ben to the zoo.
It was a great day to be there too. All the animals seemed to be out and somewhat active. Bethany and Timmy at the mountain goats.
Timmy and Sam looking at the black bears.
This black bear behind Timmy loves to climb trees. We had a good time watching him. He got almost to the very top. I was afraid he would fall out or the tree would break but there was actually a sign that said not to worry that the bear climbs the trees all the time, way up high, and can get down just fine.
This lazy polar bear snuggled right up to the glass.
After looking at the animals we went to the dinosaur exhibit.
When we got to this dinosaur Sam leaned in through the fence and gave it a big "roar".
The dinosaur turned it's head and roared back. Sam pulled his head back out behind the fence as fast as he could.
Not to worry he wasn't too scared. He still sat by this baby T-Rex for a picture.
This big Tyrannosaurus Rex was Timmy's favorite. Although he really liked the dinosaur that squirted us with water but Bethany did not. When we got to those dinosaurs we ran past the mom thinking we had missed it and then the baby was hidden in the bushes ready to fire. There must have been a motion sensor on the baby because there was no way to time it out and every person that walked by got sprayed! Bethany had lingered behind and saw what happened to us and did not want to get wet so I finally had to shield her while she ran past the baby.
Last but not least the elephants. We were able to get a good view of the mom and her baby. It was a fantastic day at the zoo! The kids loved it and didn't miss going fishing one bit!

Curious About Cakes!

In second grade Matthew had to choose something he was curious about and study it not only once but twice. This time he chose cake decorating. Matthew must take after his dad, he loves to decorate and is really good at it.
Matthew designed this cake all by himself. He wanted to make a cake that had two guys fighting by a river of lava. First he started with the crumb coat.
Then he put on the volcano block and added more frosting.
Matthew had to roll out the fondant,
and then shape it around his volcano.
He used red pudding for the lava and chocolate chips for the rocks.
Then he found some Lego men to battle on top of the cake.
I think it turned out awesome! Matthew definitely has some great skills when it comes to designing and decorating cakes!
After Matthew learned about his subject he had to give an oral report to the class. So he made this pull-apart alligator cake to share with the class. It was his first time ever piping on frosting and the picture just doesn't do it justice. He piped it on so it looked like the alligator had real scales! It was so cool!
His teacher was so impressed he got an A+!
Way to go Matthew!

Happy 60th Birthday Mom!

This year my mom turned the big 6-0! She took my kids and my brother Brent's kids miniature golfing and then out for pizza. We had a great time together and I am so grateful we were able to celebrate together and hope we get to again in another 60 years with her great-great grandkids!
Happy Birthday Mom!

Planting with Grandpa!

Boys and dirt just seem to go together like two peas in a pod. As soon as Sam saw grandpa outside with a shovel he ran to get his boots on!Sam was such a good helper planting the grapes. While grandpa dug up the dirt he took the big rocks and pieces of dirt and threw them out in the field.
After they planted grandpa and Sam picked up all the toys that the kids had thrown in the bushes.
I think that grandpa was thrilled to have such a good helper!

Feel the Love!

For some reason whenever Scott is on the floor Sam crawls on top of him and hugs him. Sam doesn't do this to anyone else but Scott. He loves his big brother and I think Scott really loves it when Sam gives him hugs!!

Happy 6th Birthday Timmy!

I've always told my kids that when they start school they can have a big friend party and Timmy is my child that never, ever forgets. So this year we had a big birthday party for Timmy.
We invited all of the boys in his kindergarten class and kids from church.
What a good lookin' bunch of kids!
Since this was Timmy's special birthday we also invited Richard Ritchey the Reptile Man to come to the party.
He brought all sorts of really cool reptiles. Like this Tortoise.
Richard was really good with all the kids and they were able to touch a lot of the snakes and lizards that he brought along.
This alligator that is giving Timmy a little pat on the head was found a couple of years ago down in the creek by our house and the reptile man took him in after animal control finally caught him.
Scott was so excited when the reptile man let him pick up the rattle snake and put it back in its container. I couldn't believe he actually did it. I would have been too chicken!
All the boys loved this snake, the king cobra.
Since Timmy was the birthday boy he was able to hold most of the non-venomous snakes while the other kids came up to touch them.
This boa constrictor was a little too heavy for Timmy to hold on his own so
the reptile man let the other kids come up and help.
After the reptile show it was time to open the presents!
Then we all went outside for a silly string fight and games. Timmy and his friends had a great time together and the boys were sad when their parents showed up to take them home.
Since we did the friend party the Saturday before Timmy's real birthday we had a little party with the family and grandpa and grandma. Timmy was thrilled to party on and loved his new Legos from his grandparents.
Then it was time for more cake that Matthew made for Timmy all by himself!
Happy Birthday Timmy!
